Loadblocks

IMS has the manufacturing and design capabilities to deliver custom loadblocks suited for the most challenging applications. We have developed loadblocks for hot metal applications, fully submersible loadblocks, loadblocks for hydro applications, spark resistant loadblocks, and many other unique application designs. In addition, IMS can provide power rotating loadblocks and blocks reeved into special spreader beams and other custom lifting equipment. IMS can also re-condition loadblocks with new bearings, sheaves, hooks, and other components as required.

Standard Loadblock Typical Design Features

  • Designed in accordance with CMAA #70
  • Available in almost any capacity
  • Case hardened sheave grooves – 400 BHN minimum hardness
  • Tapered roller sheave bearings with Nilos seals locked into place with AN locknuts
  • Each set of sheave bearings have an individual grease ports to ensure all bearings are supplied with the appropriate supply of grease
  • Sheave pin is manufactured from through hardened alloy steel
  • Fabricated steel loadblock housing with fixed or rotating trunion
  • Hook nut and thrust bearing designed for easy hook rotation
  • Top shroud plate to cover sheaves
  • Hooks are available as single or duplex (with or without center hole)
  • Available with latches (spring type, gravity, or bullard)
  • Common options include hook locks, permanently sealed sheave bearings, mounted junction box for attaching a cable from a cable reel, heat shields, hook trammel points, and stainless steel hooks

Power Rotating Loadblock Typical Design Features

  • Hook nut and thrust bearing designed for easy hook rotation
  • Top shroud plate to cover sheaves
  • Hooks are available as single or duplex (with or without center hole).
  • Available with latches (spring type, gravity, or bullard)
  • One-piece housing or separable sheave and power block assemblies.
  • Typical hook rotate speed is 1 to 2 rpm
  • Typical motor power from ½ thru 5 horsepower, depending on the capacity and application requirements
  • Disc brake mounted to the motor to lock the hook in place
  • Power transmission system includes enclosed gearing, chain/sprocket, and open gearing
  • Slip clutch connected to enclosed gear drive to protect the system from an accidental overload
